5 Reasons Why Your Blog Isn’t Generating Traffic

emf-rad-12Can’t seem to drive any sizable amount of traffic to your blog? Regardless of its niche/subject, all blogs need to traffic to succeed. Without visitors reading your content, you won’t be able to generate sales or produce leads — and search engines may lower your ranking as a result, adding further heartache to the situation.

#1) CMS Settings

If your blog isn’t generating traffic, you should check its visibility settings within your content management system (CMS). In WordPress, access Settings > Reading > and uncheck the box labeled “Discourage search engines from indexing this site.” While this setting is turned off by default, users may unknowingly check it by accident, resulting in a significant drop in search engine traffic.

#2) Not Mobile Friendly

More and more people are using their smartphones and tablet devices to access the Internet instead of traditional PCs and laptops. Failure to optimize your blog for mobile users could result in a huge loss of traffic. So, how do you achieve a mobile-friendly blog? The easiest solution is to use a Responsive template or theme. Responsive Web Design uses CSS3 media queries and proportion-based grids to create a universal layout that functions the same across all devices.

#3) Poor Content

As the adage goes, content is king, holds true in the realm of blogging. You can’t expect to people to visit your blog unless you give them a reason, which is where content comes into play. Creating unique, high-quality content will naturally encourage visitors to read and engage themselves on your blog, which subsequently will boost your search rankings.

#4) Infrequent Updates

Blogs differ from traditional websites in several different ways, one of which is their frequency of updates. Successful blogs typically publish new content at least once a week (if not more), as this encourages visitors to return. Failing to update your blog regularly may result in a gradual decline of traffic.

#5) Duplicate Content

Another possible reason why your blog isn’t generating traffic is because it contains too much duplicate content. Don’t get me wrong, nearly all major websites and blogs have at least some form duplicate content. Small amounts of boilerplate content isn’t reason for concern, but when the bulk of your content is found in multiple locations, it makes ranking difficult for search engine bots.
